Dear Switter users,
It is with a heavy heart that Assembly Four has decided to shut down Switter. The shutdown will occur on the 14th of March, 2022 and as of today, the 14th of February, 2022, new user registrations are disabled.
The recent anti-sex work and anti-LGBTQIA+ legislative changes not only in Australia, but in the UK, US and other jurisdictions have made it impossible for us to appropriately and ethically maintain compliance for over 430,000+ users on social media platform.
You can read more about what has led to this in our public statement.
Here’s how you move from Switter
To migrate to a new Mastodon instance, including your followers, follow these steps. We recommend you do this from the web interface and not from a third party app as not all apps support the process fully. Unfortunately migrating your posts to a new account is not supported by Mastodon but you can export them from your Switter profile.
We will delete all Switter data after the shutdown so if you want to keep your history we recommend you export it before then. We will also send delete instructions to federated instances but can't guarantee they will clear all associated data.
Where should I go?
Switter was one of the last remaining spaces that adults are allowed to be adults on the internet. There are a number of other SFW Mastodon instances you can migrate to, however we recommend moving to the NSFW sections of mainstream platforms like Twitter or Reddit for any adult content. Please note that each of these platforms has a different set of terms or service and code of conduct that you should check out before joining.
If you’ve been using Switter Listings and looking to migrate to an alternative listings platform we recommend visiting Tryst.link which has a free tier available to all providers.
