We are Assembly Four, a fast-growing, purpose-driven technology company dedicated to supporting sex worker autonomy and liberation. We collaborate with sex workers across the globe to build a world where they can not just survive, but thrive.

Sex workers should have what others take for granted. The sex industry presents unique product, privacy, legislative, and ethical challenges because of stigma, discrimination, and increasingly regressive policies around the world. Even facing these headwinds, we want to set the standard for what a trustworthy, quality sex work platform can and should be.

We are stronger together. Assembly Four is a remote-first, flexible-working organisation built by sex working, neurodivergent, disabled, and LGBTQIA people. Our commitment to transparency, inclusion, and sustainability gives us the resilience to weather the storms to come. If you want to help us navigate them, we’d love to hear from you.

The role

Assembly Four is growing and our product and design functions need to grow with it. We’re looking for a Head of Product & Design to take ownership of our Product Management and Product Design teams, leading the people and strengthening the practice so our product roadmap is well-directed and well-executed.

Our primary product is an advertising platform that connects sex workers with clients. Product decisions directly affect the safety, livelihood, and autonomy of the people who use it, and the regulatory and social context means there’s rarely a playbook to follow.

You’ll manage two Product Managers and two Product Designers across our two cross-functional Product teams. You’ll co-lead these teams alongside the Head of Engineering, a partnership with shared authority and accountability. You’ll be a member of Platform Group leadership team, alongside the leads of our Systems, Data, and Trust & Safety teams. You’ll own the product roadmap for Tryst.link, making sure our teams are working on the right things for the right reasons, at the right time.

This is a hands-on leadership role. We have good people who need stronger frameworks, more structured practice, and a senior product leader who is present in the day-to-day work, bridging the gap between strategic direction and execution.

What you'll do

  • You build teams. You have real experience growing the capability of product and design teams through coaching, mentoring, hiring, and the occasional hard conversation. You understand how to support people becoming better at their craft.
  • You lead product. You have a robust, experience-informed opinions about how product teams should work. You’ll shape how we do discovery, validation, prioritisation, and iteration, and hold the team to a standard where decisions are backed by data and delivered with consistency.
  • You lead design. You have enough design leadership experience to direct designers, evaluate their work, set standards, and grow their capability.
  • You’re in the room. Our teams need a senior product leader who is present in the day-to-day, someone who can translate strategic direction into clear priorities and ensure product decisions don’t get lost between intent and execution.
  • You protect the community. We build thoughtfully, because our decisions have real impact on real people. You’ll ensure our work reflects our values: harm reduction, safety, and genuine respect for the people who use what we build.

What you bring

  • Meaningful experience leading, coaching, and growing effective product and design teams in a technology company.
  • Deep product management expertise. You know how to run a product function that delivers quality outcomes predictably and consistently.
  • Design leadership experience such that you can both direct and evaluate the work of product designers and advocate for design and design maturity throughout the org.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity. You’re energised by bringing structure where it doesn’t yet exist.
  • Commercial awareness. You understand that product decisions are business decisions and can balance user needs, mission, and sustainability.
  • Sufficient familiarity with the modern software development lifecycle to constructively challenge technical decision-makers.

It would also be great if you have

  • Experience with two-sided marketplaces, multi-product businesses, or search-driven platforms.
  • Experience in regulated, stigmatised, or high-risk industries.
  • Experience in a bootstrapped or capital-efficient company (not only VC-funded environments).
  • Previous engagement with or understanding of marginalised communities, particularly sex workers, LGBTQIA+ folks, neurodivergent individuals, and people with disability.
  • Direct experience in or strong understanding of the sex work industry.
