How Assembly Four Came to Be

From the Ground Up

Our founders built A4 from the ground up with the belief that progressive social impact, the ability to make decisions about our bodies and what we do with them, sexually or otherwise, is a fundamental human right. And that anyone should be able to make these choices without the fear of violence or discrimination.

Our founders built A4 from the ground up with the belief that progressive social impact, the ability to make decisions about our bodies and what we do with them, sexually or otherwise, is a fundamental human right. And that anyone should be able to make these choices without the fear of violence or discrimination.

Starting with our first product, Switter, was launched in response to unjust laws targeting sex workers. Early 2018 saw the passing of US law FOSTA/SESTA, which resulted in the mass deletion of millions of sex worker accounts from the internet. Assembly Four created Switter — an inclusive social media platform based on the microblogging network Mastadon — as the first step in helping sex workers regain more autonomy in this hostile legislative landscape.
Switter quickly amassed over 200,000 users with over 5.5 million status updates posted in a mere 10 months. The space was open to anyone involved in the sex industry — providers, clients, and allies alike.

The ways we are legislated are also the ways you are legislated.
